Default copy constructor and copy assignment are member-wise, not bit-wise, so that the corresponding method for each member is invoked.

Yes. The copy constructor and assignment operator chain. The sentence should have read something like The default copy constructor and operator= perform member-wise copies for class types and bitwise copies for non-class types.

I decided to strike the passage altogether because its not germane.
