I think it's kind of interesting that microsoft doesn't use visual source safe for version control. They have an in-house tool that's extremely efficient, but probably more difficult to learn/use than they're comfortable releasing under the microsoft brand.

Can you imagine trying to develop something like office or windows with VSS?
